At this time of year, this species is expected to be present on site.

A common migrant which breeds in several marshes close to Fermilab and will probably breed on site in the future. Individuals have been seen at the lab during the summer months, but breeding has not been confirmed. On rare occasions single birds have been found spending the winter on site. A juvenile American Coot was found in the A.E. Slots on Aug. 5 2018, to confirm the first breeding of this species in the Lab. Adults had been found sporadically thru the summer.
