This species is State Endangered. It is in danger of extinction as a breeding species in the state of Illinois.

At this time of year, this species is expected to be present on site.

This species is seen frequently during March, April, and early May, and again from late August through the winter. Although the habitat seems suitable and there have been a couple of late summer records, as of yet no clear evidence of nesting on site has been found.
